Hey Fam,
So despite my best efforts to avoid
going to the hospital during my
Mission, I've gone 5 times in the past 8
days.... swag. So last week
like y'all know I slid and fell going
down a hill and cut my finger in
a piece of what I think was glass but I
honestly don't know. I got 5
stitches. Then it got infected. So I had
to go back to the hospital
often so they could check up on it and
continue to disinfect it and
change my bandages. It was a good time.
But today I got my stitches
out and everything seems to be okay. So
that's cool.
This week we also had the special
opportunity to go to Rome! We had
all the missionaries come up for a big
conference with guest
appearances from Elders Nelson,
Hallstrom, and Kearon. (For those who
don't know those are various leaders in
our church) So there were some
big guns there. One of the cool things
about the conference was
that I was able to see all of my good
friends from the mission.
Reuniting with old comps, friends, and
diverse legends of the
mission. Seeing as I'm near the end of
my days in Italy I know a lot
of people and apparently a lot of people
"know" me. It was a good
time. Besides that though the speakers
were amazing. Elder Nelson at
the young age of 92 got up and preached
to us for a straight hour
about the gathering of Israel starting
with Abraham. That man made me
feel like an intellectual ant compared
to his vast biblical knowledge.
The man knows his stuff. He told us he
got a new set of scriptures and
read all of the Old Testament, New
Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine
and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price
in two weeks..... my jaw
dropped when he said that. Like I said,
intellectual ant. Anyways, the
conference was awesome. I left feeling
spiritually uplifted while at
the same time feeling as though my
metaphorical boxes had been broken
and burnt to ashes. (If that doesn't
make sense, don't worry, I'll
explain at a later date.)
Also, this week we had a cool experience
with one of our friends Paul.
Short backstory. Paul is from Nigeria
but fled many years ago. Spent 8
years in Libya till everything he had
was destroyed and with a broken
leg was forced to come to Italy. Two
years later, because of poor care
before arriving to Italy, Paul is
missing a piece of bone in his left
leg. So obviously he can't walk. He's
been confined to a wheelchair
for the past two years. Basically he's
had his fair share of trials
and they don't seem to be ending soon. I
have much respect for this
man though, even after everything he has
gone through he doesn't
mummers against God. Instead he praises
him. We had a great teaching
moment with him while visiting him and
another member of our church in
the hospital. The Lord blessed all those
present and we've all begun
to see miracles happening in Paul's
life. I'm sorry for not going into
much detail but I don't think it would
be appropriate. It suffices me
to say that it was a very spiritual and
uplifting experience.
Personally I'm doing very well. I've
been trying hard not think about
how little time I have left here in Italy
hahah Hopefully it doesn't
go by too fast. Love you all, have a
good week
