Ciao tutti
This week went by so fast I honestly
don't even know what I'm going to
say in this email. But I'll just write
down whatever I think about and
we will see what my brain puts out.
(Usually it's nothing)
So it's (was) Easter week here in Italy and
it's a pretty big here
compared to America. People go pretty
all out for it, a lot of it is
Catholic stuff but more or less now it's
just tradition. Like Friday
night they had a big procession
downtown. It was actually pretty cool.
Every church in Catanzaro had a cross
that was a different color like
one was red another blue another black.
So there was a dude who
carried their church's cross
respectively down the street. Then it was
followed by a Cardinal who blessed
everyone. Then there was an empty
tomb followed by Mary. All in all, it
was a really cool cultural
experience. (I'll send some videos)
Then Easter Sunday was cool too. An
after church Italian Easter lunch
is one of the best things in the world.
Trust me. I've learned how to
eat a lot in one sitting here in Italy
but this pranzo (lunch) was
just way too much. We had our appetizers
of assorted meats and pickled
vegetables and cheese and bread. Then
lasagna which, because we are
missionaries, we get double what
everyone else gets. Then we had some
roasted pork, and this potato bake. Also
salad. Also rice with
assorted vegetables. Also this thing
that I don't know what it's
called and I've never eaten it before
but basically it's this lettuce
leaf folded over, filled with like
cheese and covered in red sauce and
then baked. Then after that we had cake.
I'm still full from that
meal. It was so good and so much fun.
Anyways, today for PDAY we had an
awesome time. We went with some
members up into the mountains for a
picnic and then explored this park
a little bit. Then they took us up to
this national park wwwaayyyyy up
in the mountains it's called
"Sila" and it is beautiful. It's so high
up and when we got there it was all
foggy because we were literally in
the clouds. So it was like misting and all
this stuff. It reminded me
of our family trip to Yellowstone. It
was amazing. Then we explored
this little city up there as it got dark
and it seemed like a ghost
town and with the fog it was like a
scene from a scary movie and it
was so fun. We saw so many cool things
and it was beautiful. I can't
really explain it here in writing so
I'll let the pictures and stuff
we took today do the talking.
I hope everyone had an amazing Easter
and that we can all
appropriately remember what Jesus
Christ's death and resurrection mean
for all of us :) love you all and hope
you have an amazing week. With
love
